A local fitness instructor is undertaking a gruelling 15 hour spinathon cycle ride to help raise funds for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Bristol and in memory of Jack Colin Tucker.

Taking place on Tuesday 15 March between 7am to 10pm, Debi Lough from theclub at Cadbury House will peddle away alongside other club members and instructors having been inspired by Jane Tucker whose baby son Jack sadly passed away having been born 26 weeks premature in 2003.

Having been cared for by the team at St Michaels Special Baby Care Unit and 24 days in an incubator, Jane has set about a number of fund raising events which to date has raised thousands of pounds to help buy 17 vital pieces of equipment.

Having chatted to Debi about her efforts, the super fit gym instructor decided to help out with the marathon ride and is looking for donations and support from the local community.

Part of an ongoing fundraising effort, Jane is also planning to take part in a sky dive on 3 April and was one reason why Debi decided to do the ride to not only support Jane’s efforts but raise awareness.

Debi said: “To hear what Jane and her family went through and to see what she has done is very inspiring. She’s so grateful to the team at SCBU for all they did for Jack and wants to pay back the care and attention so that other premature babies will be given hope of a long and fulfilling life.

“I’ll have three bikes in reception on the day so anyone can come along and help spur me on as well as drop off any spare change.  Alternatively those wishing to donate can visit Jane’s Just Giving Page which details her plans for a sky dive later in the year.”
