What’s On July 2017

July is probably many people’s favourite month, and there’s no better time to put your sunglasses, get out and enjoy an ice cream in the best of British weather. There are so many wonderful things happening in July: outdoor events, festivals, picnics, firework and more. Take a look at the events below and discover your ideal day or night out. Summer is lovely but so short, so remember to book your events in advance!


Grand Pier Hoedown

Date: 1st July

Venue: Grand Pier, Weston Super Mare

Hoedown returns after its huge success last year!

Come and wear your cowboy hat and join us for the Grand Pier's all-American Hoedown. Learn the moves and dance the night away with live calling and entertainment from the talented 'Blazing Saddles' and their charismatic caller Miss Dixie. Fill up with a delicious hog roll and drink with our Craft Cider and then relax on the hay bales like a real cowboy!

Woodspring 2017 Model Airshow

Date: 1st July – 2nd July

Venue: Woodspring Wings

Join us to celebrate 25th anniversary of South West's top model airshow. The Woodspring Wings Model Aircraft show is a great day out for the whole family. Whether you’re a model enthusiast or just looking for something different, you’re sure to be entertained.

You will be enjoying two days of continuous flying displays by some of the country's leading model pilots. The show ground is well attended by traders offering some great bargains as well as more family-friendly events. If simply watching the planes go by isn’t enough, you can grab a bottle of Somerset cider and some tasty food and relax under the colourful sky.

'Murder at the Museum' A Family Themed Mystery 

Date: 2nd July

Venue: The Helicopter Museum

‘Murder at the Museum’ takes place between 10am and 4pm, and it’s an event tailored for the whole family. The mystery is designed so that each family can start whenever they arrive and solve the clues in their own time.

"Families who visit the museum will be able to try their hands at amateur sleuthing," added museum Marketing Assistant Peter Michallat. "They will be interrogating a host of suspicious characters, solving puzzles, conducting forensic examinations and hunting for clues to discover the whereabouts of our Curator who has mysteriously gone missing!"

Families who successfully solve the crime will be receive a certificate when the criminal is completely uncovered at the end of the day. There will also be a flight simulator, open cockpits and charity stalls.

The Helicopter Museum is a registered charity (no 281053) and houses the world’s largest collection of helicopters along with - for one day only – a very sneaky villain who needs catching!

Weston Classic Car Shows

Date: 7th July

Venue: Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare

Weston Classic Car Shows come back for 2017! This monthly classic car shows was hugely popular last year with everything from pre-war motorcars to 90's classics lined up in the square.

The organiser of the show, Keith Palmer, was awarded the Mayor's Borough Shield for his work organising these fantastic events for the town and raising money for local charities.

Rock N Roll Paradise

Date: 7th July

Venue: Playhouse, Weston-super-Mare

In 2017 Rock 'n' Roll Paradise returns to the UK's theatres for the eighth straight year but in a brand-new and breathtaking format. The show's producers will be taking you on a magical mystery tour through an era that changed the music world forever, with a group of rock ‘n’ roll stars that will perform the hits at each show.

You’ll hear tunes from Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, The Big Bopper,  Carl Perkins, Del Shannon, Eddie Cochran, the Everly Brothers, Ritchie Valens, Ricky Nelson, Duane Eddy, Bobby Vee, Neil Sedaka and even the king himself – Elvis. They will make sure you are on amazing journey through music history.

Hazy Dayz Music Festival 2017

Date: 7th July - 8th July

Venue: The Playhouse

Hazy Days 2017 will be the 2nd festival held at the iconic Tropicana, the Weston-super-Mare home to 2015's Banksy exhibition Dismaland.

This year you will be partying with the Fun Lovin' Criminals, Newton Faulkner, Reef, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Neville Staple Band. Many more artists are yet to be revealed, so if you’re a music fan then don’t miss this event!

Jane McDonald Making Memories

Get ready to make some memories and see Jane McDonald’s best show yet! Jane is one of the best singers in the UK, and she’s coming back to the stage to perform her best sets yet. As part of the tour, Jane is making a welcome return to The Playhouse on the 15th July 2017. 

"Making Memories" will be an incredible production packed full of phenomenal songs and arrangements. Jane will be singing “Memory”, one of her signature songs which received 5-star reviews as part of her performance as Grizabella in Cats the musical.

One Night of Elvis: Lee Memphis King

In his previous show, he recreates the essence of the King with consummate ease and an almost unbelievable combination of stunningly accurate vocals and incredible passion in every performance.

In this latest production, Lee Memphis King portrays Elvis Presley at his peak celebrating the iconic ‘Vegas Years’ from 1969 to 1977. Firework at sea 

Date: 25th July

Venue: Grand Pier 

There’s no better place to see fireworks than on the Grand Pier itself, and entry is strictly ticket only, so grab your ticket soon if you want to share the romantic view with your loved one in the best spot.

The show time is subject to tide and weather conditions but will take place between 10 and 10.30pm. Food will be available from the Boardwalk Restaurant until approximately 9.30pm.
