Spooky meet and greet at popular South-West hotel

A resident ghost who resides in one of the South-West’s most popular four-star hotels has agreed to a one-off meet and greet with guests so they can get to know her a little better!

Visitors at Cadbury House in Congresbury in North Somerset can now put their names down for the special event which is taking place on Saturday 1 April.

The chance experience has come about following the venue’s annual haunted house audit, which involves experts from the Government department of spectres and ghouls visiting known haunted houses to check on the legitimacy of a venue’s claim.

The original Cadbury House dates back to the 1790s where it served as a private residence, then between 1839 and 1955 it became a school known as St David’s.

Later the house evolved into a luxury country club, providing a stunning back drop for hunting balls, medieval banquets and charity events and is now regarded as the premier venue to stay in the region.

It is well rumoured that the Master Suite in the original house is occupied by the spirit of a little girl called Emily and it was during the haunted house audit that she made herself known to head haunted auditor Dr Flora Plois.

The Dr said: “We’ve been to Cadbury House many times as it’s well rumoured to contain a ghost of a young girl. We were in the old part of the house when our instruments started going into overdrive then all of a sudden, there she was.

“Emily was incredibly polite and we had a great chat about where she is from and what she likes to do. She said she really does love watching the many weddings that take place here and is also intrigued by some of the phrases used at business meetings and conferences.

“She also loves the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse restaurant and longs to enjoy one of the
delicious steaks.

“But the main thing she misses most is getting to speak to people direct so we managed to persuade her to this special meet and greet.”

Anyone interested in attending now need to contact Professor Ivor Beenhad who will be at the venue on the day making suitable arrangements. People are being asked not to bring cameras or phones on the day, as Emily is apparently camera shy.
